West Pokot Governor during AICD event in West Pokot

West Pokot Governor, Prof. John Longanyapuo has said his government will work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure that corruption is eradicated in the county.

Speaking during the International Anti-Corruption Day at Makutano Stadium, the governor appealed to both national and county government officers working in his county to cooperate in the fight against the vice noting that acts of corruption had denied many Kenyans services, yet every citizen paid taxes to be served by the government.

He warned those still engaging in the vice that their days were numbered and invited EACC to set up mechanisms that would deter such acts before they are actualized.

Addressing the same gathering, EACC Commissioner, Dr. Maalim Dabar pointed out that the country lost close to KSh.600 billion annually due to corrupt acts, and called upon Kenyans to shun acts that promoted the vice.

He further disclosed that in the last financial year, the Commission saved the country from losing Ksh.14 billion by preventing would be corrupt acts and also recovered Ksh. 4.6 billion worth of assets which were acquired through corruption.

The commissioner appealed to politicians not to sensationalize nor politicize issues whenever they were found to have embezzled public funds but give investigative agencies time to conclude their work.
