1) EMBU COUNTY - Project – Kangaru Dispensary
a) Introduction
Kangaru Dispensary Project is located in Kirimari Ward, Manyatta Sub-County in Embu County. It was funded by the County Government of Embu at a total cost of KShs. 1,500,000.00. The Project works began in the financial year 2016/2017 but stalled in the same year.
b) Citizen Engagement
The Embu County Anti-Corruption Civilian Oversight Committee (CACCOCs) undertook a social audit and public reporting forum with the project beneficiaries. A total of nineteen (19) beneficiaries attended and were sensitized on the six stages in the project cycle and corruption, corrupt practices prone areas at each stage of the cycle and preventive measures.
c) Results
Based on the awareness created, the beneficiaries drafted a petition to the County Government requesting for the completion of the project, which resulted in an allocation of an additional KShs. 2,000,000 for completion of the project. The project was completed and is operational.
2) MERU COUNTY - Project - Ntakira Water Project
a) Introduction
Ntakira Water Project is located in Ntakira and Ngonyi Locations, Miriga Ward, North Imenti Sub-County in Meru County. It was funded by Water Sector Trust Fund, Imenti North NG-CDF and members’ contributions at a total cost of KShs. 17,240,460.00. The Project works began in the financial year 2015/2016 but had never supplied water to the beneficiaries.
b) Citizen Engagement
The Meru County Anti-Corruption Civilian Oversight Committee (CACCOCs) undertook a social audit and public reporting forum with the project beneficiaries. A total of nineteen (87) beneficiaries attended and were sensitized on the six stages in the project cycle and corruption, corrupt practices prone areas at each stage of the cycle and preventive measures.
c) Results
Based on the awareness created, the beneficiaries identified the Project Management Committee (PMC) as the problem and decided to dissolve it and hold fresh elections. After elections, the NACCSC organized a capacity building workshop for the new PMC who picked up the project to ensure the access and provision of water to the beneficiaries of the project.
