Corruption is the abuse of power for personal gain or benefit of a group of people. It is also the abuse of entrusted power for a private gain, abuse of socially acceptable norms or evil or immoral conduct.

Some of the common causes of corruption are; greed, tribalism, favoritism, nepotism, misuse of power or office for individual gains, failure to practice societal norms and values, support for people accused of corruption, lack of transparency and accountability and lenient punishment meted on those accused of corruption.

  • Record a statement with investigative agencies and give evidence in a court of law.

A bribe is an inducement given in advance to persuade a person to act in their favor.


A public servant should not accept a gift in the line of duty. However, any gift to a public servant exceeding KSHs. 20000 shall be surrendered to the state.
