Since the inception of National Anti-Corruption Campaign Steering Committee (NACCSC), the anti-corruption awareness campaign has contributed significantly to the high levels of citizen awareness and encouraged citizens to speak openly and boldly against the vice and refer to corruption by name instead of pseudonyms e.g. "chai, harambee, kitu kidogo." The committee undertakes a value-based campaign with a view of instilling morals, values and ethics as enshrined in Article 10 of the Constituion of Kenya, 2010.
Various surveys undertaken by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have indicated that high awarness levels of corruption by citizens at 5.8%. NACCSC has empowered members of the public to understand the various forms and evolving trends of corruption and their role in taking preventive action against corrupt practices hence saving resources allocated for projects and programmes. NACCSC delivers this through workshops, seminars (village seminars) open forums and public meetings (baraza). The campaign has been instrumental in helping citizens clearly understand their role and the mechanisms for participating in the fight against corruption, the importance of policing resources through public participation in budgeting and implementation; and to demand for transparency, accountability and quality service.
