The National Anti-Corruption Campaign Steering Committee partnered with the Kazi Mtaani Program to train over 300 youth in Kilungu Sub County in Makueni County.
The one day youth skills development programme in Kikoko and Kyambeke wards was an initiative of the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) under the leadership of the Makueni County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim, the EMAT Foundation, JICA, and The Global e-Schools and Communities Initiative (GESCI).
The NACCSC trained the youth on project management and corruption cycles as well as the role of the youth in the fight against corruption. They also received training in youth entrepreneurship and agribusiness, project management and corruption, CV preparation and job search and patriotism and nationalism.
Addressing the youth during the workshop, the Deputy County Commissioner for Kilungu Sub County Charles Lang’at noted that crime rate in Kikoko and Kyambeke wards had reduced by 40% since the introduction of the Kazi Mtaani program in the area.
The NACCSCs Regional Coordinator Sophie Ligondo and the Kilungu Sub-county representative of the County Anti-Corruption Civilian Oversight Committee (CACCOC) member Joshua Kang’alu represented the Campaign Secretariat at the workshop and distributed IEC materials that included reflector jackets with anti-corruption messages.
NACCSC partners with other organizations to conduct training on social audit, corruption in project cycles, participatory budgeting among other areas to empower citizens to monitor the utilization of resources for better service delivery and to eliminate corruption.
