Use Social Media to reach citizens, CACCOCs advised
The Kiambu County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga advised the County Anti-Corruption Civilian Oversight Committee (CACCOC) members to use social media to conduct social audits and awareness creation activities. The County Commissioner noted that the residents are very active on social media and using this medium to reach them will be very effective in educating and receiving feedback.
He said this when the Chief Administrative Secretary, Winnie Guchu paid him a courtesy call on him in his office and later addressed members of the CACCOC. She encouraged them to get back to work after two years of inactivity and committed herself to ensure that the challenges they faced will be sorted out once and for all.
The CACCOCs perform a noble job at the grassroots of sensitizing citizens and they require support to be effective. The County Commissioner undertook to incorporate the chairman of the CACCOC committee Bishop Kennedy Mbatia in the County Development Implementation and Communication Committee so that he can familiarize himself with all the development projects being undertaken to enable members monitor their implementation.
He also urged the CACCOC members to be loud and to speak about corruption in public places as this will go a long way in preventing the perpetuators of the vice from fleecing public resources. In fact, he urged them to be activists as they perform their duty for enhanced impact.
This is the 2nd leg of the CASs visits to counties on her mission to rebrand and revitalize the committees. This week, she visited Nairobi, Kiambu and Kajiado counties. She is slated to visit Machakos and counties in the coast province. The remaining counties will be covered next year.
